Biography
Giorgio Amendola (November 21, 1907 – June 5, 1980) was an Italian writer and politician, regarded as a precursor of the Olive Tree. Born in Rome, he was the son of Eva Kühn and Giovanni Amendola, a liberal anti-fascist. He secretly joined the Italian Communist Party in 1929 and promoted opposition to the Mussolini regime, being arrested and exiled in France.
Achievements
Amendola served as a deputy in the Italian Parliament for the PCI from 1948 until his death in 1980. In the 1970s, he became known as one of the leaders of the party's right wing, advocating for the gradual removal of Soviet Communist ideas and supporting alliances with moderate parties, especially the Italian Socialist Party.
Fun facts
Starting in 1967, Amendola began working as a writer, publishing notable works such as 'Comunismo, antifascismo e Resistenza' and 'Un'isola', the latter considered his best work. His wife, Germaine Lecocq, who helped him write his last work, died just hours after him.
