George Ancona (December 4, 1929 – January 1, 2021) was an American photo essayist and creator of photo-illustrated children's picture books. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of immigrants from Mexico. He is known for creating vivid photo essays that invite children to immerse themselves in new cultures and appreciate everyday life.

Throughout his career, Ancona authored, photographed, and designed over one hundred books beloved by children and librarians. He won the Cine Golden Eagle Award in 1967 and received several accolades, including the City of Santa Fe Mayor's Award for Excellence in the Arts in 2014.
