Biography
Henri Alby (November 5, 1858 – February 11, 1935) was a French army general who served during World War I. Born in Marseille, he attended the School of Artillery and Engineering in 1878, quickly rising through the military ranks.
Achievements
Alby was promoted to division general in 1915 and was put in charge of the 13th Corps during World War I. After the war, he was appointed Chief of the Army Staff, succeeding Marshal Foch.

Despite his promotions, his leadership was questioned by some contemporaries, who described him as a 'very poor man' and a 'trembling reed.' He received the Legion of Honour and the U.S. Army Distinguished Service Medal.
