David Pryor Adickes (January 19, 1927 – July 13, 2025) was an American modernist sculptor and painter, known for his most famous work, the statue A Tribute to Courage of Sam Houston in Huntsville, Texas.
Achievements
Adickes studied in France under Fernand Léger and taught at the University of Texas at Austin. He excelled in creating monumental sculptures, including the Virtuoso in Houston and 43 busts of presidents in Virginia. He founded the Adickes Art Foundation Museum in his former high school.
